Coming Home

After a seven-hour transcon flight bucking strong headwinds from New York with a fuel stop in Salt Lake City, we have finally made it to Point Reyes in Northern California. My home is just to the north of our vantage point and the beautiful San Francisco peninsula can be seen just over the Captain's left shoulder. In just a few more miles we will be making a left turn to follow the waypoints on the Golden Gate Seven arrival into SFO.

The Pacific is a golden shimmer and there's virtually not a cloud in sight as I make out the small rocky Farallon Islands that sit just off the coast. These rocky mounds are usually shrouded in thick cool fog most of the year, so viewing them is always a nice treat. I am also reminded of the large infestation of great white sharks that loiter these waters in search of seals that hang around the rocks. No surfing here for me.

The aircraft begins a left turn at the LOZIT intersection as we descend and maintain 11,000 feet. This view down there never gets old as I am so lucky to live in one of America's most beautiful (and expensive) places. We pass Bolinas, Muir Beach, the Golden Gate Bridge and Pacifica. San Francisco's gorgeous skyline can now be clearly seen in the left windscreen as we are then vectored off the arrival for a quick descent to the airport.

My trip ends here and once again I am home.
